An important measure of the community is how well it provides for the health care of it's residents. The Union County area enjoys excellent health care through it's hospital, emergency medical services and dedicated health care professionals. Union County Hospital Authority operates a 45 bed facility and offers all routine medical services, including nuclear medicine, ultrasound, respiratory therapy, CAT scans and laboratory and radiology services. The medical staff includes family practitioners, radiologists, opthalmologists, urologists and heart specialists. 24 hour emergency service is available. Hillcrest Family Care is a walk in medical office, open 7 days a week for general practice medical services. They are located on the bypass in Hillcrest Plaza. The County Health Department offers a variety of medical services and the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse offers counseling, rehabilitation and referral services. Several home health care agencies provide in-home services and nursing services. Emergency Medical Service is available 24 hours per day. The EMS works with volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and a helicopter is available when needed. Hillcrest Drugs provides prescription service, medicines and medical equipment. They are located in Hillcrest Plaza on the bypass. Blairsville Optical, on the Square, has Optometrist and Consultative Opthalmologists on staff. The Union County Nursing Home is a county operated, 100 bed nursing facility offering intermediate and skilled care. Several physicians, dentists, chiropractors and health care practitioners provide services to Union County residents. |
