SORGHUM FESTIVAL - Held the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weekends in October, the
height of the autumn color season. This is one of the best events in the
Georgia mountains. Sponsored by the Blairsville Jaycees, this event is
visited by more than 80,000 people annually. The festival includes cooking
sorghum, display of crafts and mountain goods and foods, a car show and
squaredances. Add the "Biskit Eatin & Syrup Soppin" contest and everyone
has a grand time.
INDIAN SUMMER FESTIVAL is held the 1st weekend in October in Suches. Arts
and crafts and mountain foods make for a great time.
APPALACHIAN TRAIL - This wilderness trail crosses 80 miles of North Georgia
as it winds its way to Maine. The trail is mostly ridges at elevations
around 3000' in Union County. There are beautiful scenic views, mountain
streams and challenging hiking through the Chattahoochee National Forest.
BRASSTOWN BALD MOUNTAIN & VISITOR INFORMATION CENTER - Georgia's highest
elevation of 4,784 feet down a sheer granite canyon and into Dukes Creek.
Scenic beauty, gold panning, observation deck.
FRANK GROSS RECREATION AREA - Along beautiful Rock Creek, near
Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery, Camping and fishing.
HELTON CREEK FALLS - Beautiful double falls set in deep hardwood forest.
The total vertical drop is more than 100 feet.
LAKE NOTTELY - 4,160 acres of water with 106 mile shoreline. Boating,
swimming, fishing, picnicking and camping.
LAKE WINFIELD SCOTT - Clear 18 acre lake, high in the mountains with
picnicking, camping, swimming, fishing, boating and hiking.
TRACKROCK ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA - 52 acre area with preserved petroglyph of
ancient Indian origin.
VOGEL STATE PARK - Rental cottages, 20 acre lake, miniature golf, swimming
beach, bathhouse, picnic shelters, camping, pedal boats and hiking trails.
